Privacy Policy

SaferChat ("we", "us") helps parents block specific WhatsApp channels on their child's device without blocking the whole app. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and your choices. We do not sell your data, and we do not show ads.

Who controls the data

The parent who creates the account is responsible for the children they add. SaferChat acts as the service provider that stores and processes the data needed to make blocking and parental controls work.

Information we collect

• Account information: parent's email address, name, and a securely hashed password.
• Child profile information (entered by the parent): the child's first name, age, and an optional avatar (emoji or a photo the parent chooses).
• Device pairing data: a pairing token and device identifier used to link a child's device to the parent account.
• Activity data: when a blocked channel is opened on the child's device, we log the channel name and time so the parent can review attempts and approve channels.
• Notification token: a push-notification (Firebase) token so we can alert the parent in real time when their child requests access.
• Preferences: chosen language and blocking settings (categories, allow/block lists).

We do not read, store, or transmit the content of the child's private WhatsApp chats. The app only detects whether an open conversation is a public channel and, if blocked, navigates away from it.

How the Accessibility Service is used

SaferChat uses Android's Accessibility Service solely to detect when a blocked WhatsApp channel is opened on the child's device and to navigate back so the channel is not shown. It is the only way to provide channel-level blocking. The service is not used to collect personal content, passwords, or private messages, and it is not used for advertising.

How we use information

• To provide the core service: blocking channels, syncing settings, and sending approval requests.
• To send the parent account and service emails (e.g. a welcome email).
• To send real-time notifications to the parent.
• To keep the service secure and working.

Service providers we use

• Supabase — database hosting.
• Railway — application hosting.
• Google Firebase — push notifications.
• Resend — sending account emails.

These providers process data only to operate the service on our behalf. We do not sell personal data to anyone.

Children's data

SaferChat is intended to be set up and operated by a parent or guardian. The limited child information (first name, age, optional avatar) is provided by the parent to manage their own family's settings. It is not used for advertising or sold, and it is only accessible to the parent's account.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing contact@mysaferchat.com. We will delete it within a reasonable period.

Security

Passwords are stored hashed, connections are encrypted in transit, and access to data is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data by contacting us. If you are in the EU/EEA, you have rights under the GDPR; if in other regions, equivalent local rights may apply.

Changes

We may update this policy. We will update the date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app or by email.
